                            Common Verbs with a Change in Meaning in Progressive Form

                     •   Sarah appears sad today.                  state: “give the impression”

                     •   Look! The singer is appearing on the stage.  action, now: “come into view”
                     •   Babies’ diapers feel very soft.           state: “give the feeling of”
                     •   I feel (that) she will pass the test this time.   state: “suppose”
             Feel    •   I’m feeling good. (= I feel good.)        “have a feeling”
                     •   I’m feeling well. (= I feel well.)        “have a feeling”
                     •   She’s feeling the fabric.                 action, now: “touch and get the feeling”

                     •   He is very rich and he has six cars.      state: “own”
                     •   They have got a big house by the lake.    state: “own”
