KULLANIM

Geçmişte yapmaya niyet edilen ancak gerçekleştirilemeyen eylemleri anlatırken kullanırız. Bu yapıdan
sonra çoğunlukla “but” diye de gerçekleştirilemeyen konu hakkında açıklama yapılır.

➠ I was going to resign from my work last week, but the manager persuaded me not to.
➠ Sandra was going to complete her paper last week, but her computer broke down and she couldn’t.
➠ The government was going to put a new tax into practice, but there was a strong objection from the
opposition party.

Tip Yukarıda belirtilen aynı anlam “would” ile de kullanılır. Hatta “was/were going to” yerine
“would” kullanımı daha yaygındır.

➠ I would resign from my work last week, but the manager persuaded me not to.
➠ The government would put a new tax into practice, but there was a strong objection from the opposition
party.
